Finding Book Reviews in the FIU Libraries

This will help you exhaust all the resources at the FIU Libraries, both print and online, in the quest for a book review!

The first things to consider when looking for book reviews of a book are:

  • When was it published?
  • Is it a Scholarly or Popular work?
  • Is it Fiction or Non-fiction?

This will help you determine which database to search in; some databases may not cover the time your book was published or some may be more likely to cover reviews of non-fiction books versus novels, for example.

Of secondary importance, it would be helpful to know:

  • Is it a standalone work or part of a series? (many novels are)
  • Has it been reprinted many times?
  • Is it one of many books this author has written?
  • Was it written under a pseudonym (pen name)?
  • Was it a translation?
  • Was it later issued in other languages?

This will determine what search terms you should input in the database and whether you should search in databases that cover foreign presses, for example.
